You're damn/damned right

  • Damned right, Billsiu...
  • its ”damn right“ 好心你啦 寫不來英文就少出來柒啦

    馬鹿
  • 馬鹿, You're damn right but grammar is not the issue here. Your observation is irrelevant
  • I can't add anything to definitions, as others have amply done so, but I will point out that to be grammatically correct it should be "damned right" or "damn right" and the shorter form is just another example of spoken slang making its way into the written form.
  • 我想討教的是究竟 'damn right' 還是 'damned right' 才對呢? 以文法的分析, 我會講 'You're damn right' 這個 'damn' 字是 adverb, 用來修飾 'right' 這adverb, 用起來就像 'You're quite right' 的意思一樣。很多香港人誤以為 'You're quite right' 是「你都講得幾啱」, 其實這個 quite 字是 absolutely, very 的意思, 即是「我絕對同意」/「你講得十分對」。'You're damn right' 的 'damn' 字既然是adverb, 就不應是 'damned' 了。如果你要抝 'damned' 在這句子裏是 adverb, 我不敢跟你抝, 因為同樣講得通, 也有字典確認這講法。所以應該兩個都合乎文法, 我覺得Peter Chan 沒有錯, 馬鹿的指責不見得是對的。我自己偏向講 'You're damn right', 雖然我慣於講 'You're quite right'。

有另一個慣常聽到的講法: You're damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't。

    12. First of all, whether I am literately ignorant or not is irrelevant to the fact that I agreed with Billsiu's comments on the HKU student needing therapy more than punishment. What he did actually had nothing to do with HKU, so 馬鹿 dragging HKU into it and slagging off HKU is disgraceful. But then, that is 馬鹿.
I did not refer or specifically direct my comments to 馬鹿 but still I got bitten by a rabious dog. It's sad, really sad. Frankly I have always ignored 馬鹿 when reading Billsiu's blog simply because I do not like wasting my time. What 馬鹿 said in reply was a prime example of how internet forums work nowadays - gutless, clueless people hiding behind fake identities taking out their rage unhappiness and failures on the others knowing that they are safe behind the wall. Well, the world is full of failures and there's nothing I could do.
As to using damn or damned my personal opinion is that they are interchangeable when used as an adverb and I prefer to use damned, which to me is the grammatically correct one. To comment on someone or something one does not need to be grammatically perfect, I would have thought, but if 馬鹿 wants to make a point of it I humbly submit to your superior intelligence.
I can use damned or damn as I please, thank you. Whether I am literate or not is simply none of your business, 馬鹿。

Re:《細說英語粗話》 (American English Vulgarism) [ by Michael Bernard / 劉佑知 ]

      http://www.cp1897.com.hk/product_info.php?BookId=957051647X

      Examples:

A: Want to go to the rock concert tonight?
B: No Way. I'm too damn tired.

A: She's been missing for damned near two years already.
      B. Do you think the police will ever find her?

      A. You know damn(ed) well what I mean.
      B. I know. But it's the way you said it that bothers me.

注意:Damn 一字的合成語很多,本身可當動詞、形容詞、副詞、名詞。在美南部及西部地方話有改用拼法及發音相似的代替字彙,如:dang, darn, durn, goldurn, goldang, gosh darn 等;加 god (小寫 g) 成 goddam(n), g'damn 作加強語氣的虛字用, 不指 "上帝", 故與 damn, damn it, dammit 可互換, 例如:

      Damn!/goddam! Another hole-in-one!
      I got here first, dammit/goddammit!
      damn hungry/goddam hungry
      no damn good/goddam good

    15. damn/damned right兩個都對
      看你生活在那,年齡幾大
      如果在英國出生45以上會用damned
      美國出生會用damn
      美式英語出自於英式(緊記)
      例如:imma是對 那I am going to是錯嗎?
      wanna gotta gonna etc...
      只分俚語和書寫,國家和地區。
      今次只怪馬生學習於美式,忘記英式。
      另外一點:
      好彩Peter Chan不是馬生對家律師
      Peter Chan開一個damned字
      馬生說這是錯
      原來中了計 damned/damn都可以
      那馬生如何否定damned的用法
      那埸官司馬生有機會敗訴了。

Well at least now I know the reason why 馬鹿 thinks every Chinese person who's not an American is a CHICOM spy ~ he's got the typical inferiority mindset that exists amongst uneducated people in the US of A.
